Second Home Theatre Group's mission is to provide quality theatre productions and education in a Godly environment.

We seek to encourage students to discover, develop, and use their God-given talents to learn, grow, and serve in a way that is pleasing to and glorifies God. We believe every student has something valuable to contribute, and our goal is to help each student grow from where they are while experiencing the collaboration, discipline, and joy of creating excellent theatre together.

Second Home Theatre Group is a pre-professional youth theatre program that welcomes students with a wide range of experience, abilities, and talents. Students do not need extensive theatre experience to participate in our productions; however, our program is designed differently from a traditional educational theatre class where the primary focus is teaching foundational acting, singing, or performance skills.

Instead, our productions give students the opportunity to apply and further develop the skills they already possess while working in a structured, collaborative, pre-professional theatre environment.

Auditions are an important part of this process. They allow our production team to evaluate each student's current skill set, including areas such as acting, vocal ability, dance and movement, stage presence, character work, and how the student may best contribute to the needs of the overall production. Casting and performance opportunities are based on these assessments and the needs of each individual show.

While every student accepted into one of our productions is a valued member of the company, participation does not mean that every student will receive a leading role, solo, featured moment, or equal amount of stage time. Students enter our program at different levels of experience and God-given gifting, and we seek to meet each student at that level, challenge them to grow, and utilize their strengths appropriately within the production.

Our goal is not to make students the "star" of a production. Rather, we teach students that excellent theatre requires every member of the company—leads, supporting performers, ensemble members, dancers, technicians, and crew—to work together to tell a story well. We value faithfulness, humility, teamwork, growth, and excellence both on and off the stage.

Students in grades 6-12 who want additional opportunities to strengthen and expand their performance skills may participate in our International Thespian Society troupe. Through our Thespian program, eligible students have opportunities to participate in acting, improvisation, music, and other theatre classes and workshops designed to stretch their abilities and help them become stronger, more versatile performers.

Second Home Theatre Group is proud to be an officially recognized troupe of the International Thespian Society, an international honor society for middle and high school theatre students that recognizes student achievement and provides opportunities for continued growth, leadership, and excellence in the performing arts.

SHTG productions require a significant commitment from our students and families, as our rehearsal schedules are designed to prepare students for a full-scale theatrical production.

During our typical Fall and Spring production seasons, students generally rehearse twice per week in the mid-afternoon, beginning around 3:00 p.m. or later. Rehearsals typically last approximately two hours, with additional or extended rehearsals scheduled as we approach performances.

Our Summer productions operate in an intensive, camp-style format. Students attend daily rehearsals for approximately 6–8 hours per day over a two-week period, during which they rehearse, prepare, and ultimately perform a full-length theatrical production.

Because each production has different demands—including the complexity of the material, rehearsal schedule, length of the show, and level of independence required from students—age requirements may vary from one production or program to another. Even when a student meets the stated age requirement, we ask parents to carefully consider whether their individual student is prepared to meet the demands of the program.

Specific rehearsal schedules, age requirements, and attendance expectations are provided with the registration information for each production.

Cost of our Theatre Program (as of 2026): Tuition for Theatre Students to be a part of our productions (which includes costume and shoe rental) is: $300 per student

Cost of our Technical Theatre Program (as of 2026) is: $150 per student. Students must be at least 13 years of age to participate in the tech program.

At Second Home Theatre Group (SHTG), we strive to create a Christ-centered environment where every student feels safe, encouraged, respected, and valued. Our goal is for every participant to grow in their talents while building lasting friendships and positive memories. Students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects kindness, integrity, humility, and respect for others at all times.

The rehearsal room and theater are safe spaces where young people can take positive risks and be authentic without the fear of being laughed at or alienated.  This principle is essential to artistic and personal growth.  We want to foster Godly relationships that will help and encourage each child to be the person that God created them to be.

Any discipline will be given with love, grace, and mercy to encourage students towards obedience and wisdom.  If a student is not acting appropriately (non-adherence to our code of conduct), they will be given a verbal warning.  Upon the second offense, leadership will talk to a parent/guardian about the behavior.  If a third offense occurs, we will meet directly with the student and parent/guardian to discuss necessary actions.  If a child needs to be removed from the program due to non-adherence to the code of conduct, no refund will be given. 

Our goal is to produce a performance that each student can take pride in and that ultimately glorifies God. With that in mind, we kindly ask parents to understand that a student's ability to attend rehearsals consistently and demonstrate appropriate behavior WILL play a role in casting decisions. We appreciate your support and partnership in helping create a positive and productive rehearsal environment for everyone involved.

Respect for Authority: Students and parents are expected to show respect to all SHTG leadership, directors, choreographers, music directors, volunteers, and any adults serving in an instructional or supervisory role.

Additionally, older students may occasionally be asked to assist with teaching choreography, blocking, music, line rehearsals, backstage organization, or other leadership responsibilities. When serving in these designated roles, they are acting under the direction of the production staff and should be treated with the same respect and cooperation as any member of our leadership team.

Disrespectful behavior, arguing, gossip, bullying, inappropriate language, or refusing to follow directions will not be tolerated.

Respect for Facilities: Second Home Theatre Group is blessed to rehearse and perform in facilities that have been generously made available for us to rent, by churches and other community partners. These spaces do not belong to SHTG, and we are expected to leave them in the same—or better—condition than we found them.

Use of Technology: To ensure rehearsals remain productive and free from distractions, cell phones, smart watches, tablets, headphones, gaming devices, and other personal technology are not permitted during rehearsals.

All electronic devices and personal belongings should remain in the designated lobby area during rehearsal unless otherwise instructed by the leadership team.

Public Displays of Affection: SHTG desires to provide a welcoming environment where every student feels included and respected. We want participants to leave each production with meaningful friendships and memories built through teamwork and encouragement.

Public displays of affection by our students—including, but not limited to, holding hands, kissing, prolonged hugging, cuddling, or similar romantic behavior—are not permitted during any official SHTG rehearsal, performance, activity, or event.

Attire: Students should arrive dressed appropriately for movement and stage activity. As a Christian organization, SHTG asks that all rehearsal clothing reflect standards of modesty and respect for ourselves and others. Clothing should provide appropriate coverage while allowing students to move confidently and comfortably.

Dressing Rooms and Backstage Areas: Separate dressing room areas will be provided for male and female students .

Students are ONLY permitted in their assigned dressing room unless specifically directed otherwise by a member of the production staff.

Guests and parents are NOT permitted in any backstage areas or in dressing rooms unless express permission is granted by SHTG leadership team
